About Us

Trout Unlimited is the leading conservation organization working to care for and recover rivers and streams and the trout that call them home. We bring people together to care for their rivers and help make our water cleaner and our communities healthier.

The Cataloochee Chapter of Trout Unlimited has over 40 members and supporters in Haywood County.

As a conservation organization, the Cataloochee Chapter:

  • Cares for local rivers and streams and trout populations through stream restoration projects, cleanup days, and community science programs
  • Advocates for the protection of rivers and streams locally, as well as in unison with national TU priorities across the country
  • Partners with national TU conservation staff, local and state agencies and regional environmental organizations to implement conservation programs, with a focus on work in TU’s Priority Waters
  • Partners with the Waynesville Parks & Recreation Department for fly fishing and fly tying classes
  • Partners with Haywood Waterways with volunteers to remove debris from area rivers and streams
  • Hosts regular events, social gatherings and local fishing outings that connect people with their rivers and streams
  • Inspires the next generation with environmental education programs
