Community Activities

WE ARE A COMMUNITY THAT LEARNS & HAS FUN TOGETHER – JOIN US!

When you connect with the Cataloochee at one of several events we hold across the county annually, you’re stepping into a community that cares about the rivers in our region, brings people together to make a difference and learn new skills, and creates opportunities to have fun with like-minded anglers and conservationists.

Our community events are fun, friendly and low-pressure ways to have fun while doing good, growing your fishing skills and making new friends along the way. Each year we offer:

  • Regular fishing trips on local rivers and streams where experienced angler hosts share their knowledge
  • Monthly chapter gatherings, often with a guest speaker on a range of conservation and fishing topics
  • Social nights like fly tying events, fly fishing films and meet-ups at area breweries
  • Local stream cleanup opportunities in support of Haywood Waterways

Last year, we held more than ten events, bringing together local anglers, NC Fish & Game officials, and conservationists to come together, share stories, exchange ideas and knowledge, raise a pint and more. Check out our calendar of events and join us!

MONTHLY CHAPTER GATHERINGS

On the Third Tuesday of every month we come together at Assembly on Main 1940 S. Main Street in Waynesville to share fishing stories, meet new people and hear from informational and inspiring speakers on conservation or fishing topics. These fun, friendly and free monthly events are low-pressure and open to the public. They are a great way to dip your toe into the TU community.

LOCAL FISHING TRIPS

The best way to learn new waters and grow your fishing skills is by spending time with the experienced anglers of the Cataloochee Chapter. That’s why our regular, local fishing trips are some of our best-attended activities. Held throughout the year and aimed at helping you learn where to fish, how to fish and when to fish our favorite streams in the region, these trips are great places to bring your family and friends for a fun time on the water!

SOCIAL EVENTS & NIGHTS OUT

Throughout the year we host a range of events designed to create fun, social opportunities for people who love fishing and caring for our rivers to come together. From our popular winter “Barflies” tying nights, to larger events like the annual Fly Fishing Film Festival screening, we invite everyone to join us and become part of our vibrant and growing angling community here in Haywood County.
